Fun at the Nevada State Veterans Home

Sunday, August 6th, several members of Paradise Unit 149, along with a few members from Paradise Unit 149, hosted a bingo session at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City.  We always have a great time calling out the numbers and handing out prizes.

Prizes include writing kits (paper, envelopes w/stamps, pens), large print books, stuffed animals, puzzle book packages, and homemade items, including shawls, scarves and hats made by Krysta Howard and small quilts supplied by Maria Moss.  This time we also remembered to include "Bingo Bucks", which are coupons bought from the NSVH that the residents can use in the small store to buy snacks, movies, puzzles, games, hats, and personal items.

The residents of the Nevada State Veterans home who are able to come out to play bingo always seem to enjoy themselves.  Although they are always thanking us for being there, we feel just as thankful that we have the opportunity to do something to give back.

The Nevada State Veterans Home is a retirement facility that provides medical care for those that need it.  It is open to Veterans with an other than dishonorable discharge and spouses or Gold Star parents of an eligible veteran.  The veterans must be a resident of Nevada or had been a resident of Nevada when they joined the military.  The facility provides first-rate care to our veterans who need the extra support.  More information can be found at http://www.nasvh.org/StateHomes/pdf/dir_74.pdf

Most everyone we meet any time we go the Nevada State Veterans Home, whether it be the residents or members of their families, says the staff truly care about the residents.
